WHY I’M RUNNING

The Brooklyn Democratic Party has for far too long stood for a powerful few at top at the expense of the everyday voter. We need to change this! In the last few years, everyday Democrats in Brooklyn have been working to build an inclusive party, one led by its own members. I’ve been a part of this movement and am running for District Leader to work even harder to make the party represent all its voters.

District Leaders traditionally have held a backroom role; they supported the staffing of poll workers for the Board of Elections, facilitated the nomination of Judicial Candidates and wrote rules of the party. What has been missing is what District Leaders can do to support the everyday Democrat.

I am running to do more than that. To both hold our current leadership accountable to their actions and help organize and empower Democrats in their own neighborhoods.

My Goals for our District

  • Bring transparency to the traditional work of District Leaders
This includes support staffing of poll workers, holding forums for Judicial elections where voters can meet and talk to candidates seeking Judicial office, and reforming how votes are taken within the party.

  • Partner and strengthen relationships among reform organizations and elected officials
Assembly District 52 has a vibrant reform base across elected officials, political clubs and the County Committee members. I would seek to be an ally and advocate for County Committee Members across all existing organizations.

  • Connect our district to underserved communities across the borough
Reach out to underserved communities across the borough, like the Asian American Community, in order to build solidarity across district lines.

  • Create and support organizing structures in our Assembly District
Continue to work with the Assembly District Committee (ADC) to build an organization to represent our neighbohoods in the borough wide Kings County Democratic County Party

My Goals for the Party

  • Use the Brooklyn Democratic Party as an organizing base
The County Committee has rarely ever been used as an organizing tool. I would support the formation of Countywide committees that can focus on specific organizing goals.

  • Expand the power of everyday Democrats in the Party
I would advocate for County Committee members to be able to meet more than once every two years, bring resolutions to the floor and streamline the process to change the rules of the party.

  • Proxy Reform
Historically, proxy votes have been used as a tool to silence the voices of the many. I would advocate for limits on the number of proxies an individual can carry, for digital proxies to be allowed and not having multiple proxies automatically assigned to District Leaders
